Our story

Runway Closet was born in May 2020, but saw the world in January 2021. That allowed us to focus on detailing out our rental offering, while staying true to our vision.

OUR STORY

The closet that turned into inspiration

It all started when Christina, our founder, found herself standing in front of her overflowing wardrobe, frustrated by the fact that, like most of our closets, it mainly consisted of cheap fast fashion items she bought on a whim as well as fancy occasion-dresses she had worn no more than once.

Then, what was first a personal storage space issue, soon transformed into the sudden realization that many of our serial shopping habits amount to a devastating environmental issue. After all, it’s no secret that the fashion industry is the second biggest polluter in the world, only after oil, and with the constant pressure to buy new clothes being put on us both in store and on social media, the industry shows no hope of improving its impact anytime soon.

Fast forward to May of 2020, Christina made the decision to leave fashion retail and rather open Runway Closet, a sustainable designer fashion site. When her manager asked her to drive more sales online, she realized that more clothes will end up in the landfills, and that her actions contributed to the environmental crisis.

The result? Well, now thousands of women have the opportunity to spend less on apparel and reduce their fashion carbon footprint, by renting designer wear rather than continuing to buy clothing they will end wearing if not once, only a handful of times.

Why Runway Closet

Runway Closet empowers women everywhere from two distinct angles:
Firstly, it empowers women to do their part for the environment simply by changing their shopping habits, without them having to compromise on style. Secondly, it makes designer clothes more accessible.

Now women who previously never thought they would be able to enjoy designer wear are empowered with the confidence one can only get from enjoying more responsibly made, well cut, designer pieces.
